A Road Show
- We have a roadshow of slides and presentations about Mothers' Union,
which can be used to explain who we are and what we do. Contact
office for details.
Mothers' Union members in various deaneries have local projects to
meet specific needs in their community. Many branches support the
local Women's
Refuges in Lincoln, Grimsby, Gainsborough, Boston, Grantham and
Scunthorpe. They collect toiletry items for women to have when they
arrive at the Refuge,
and household items for when they leave to set up a new home. The
refuges
make specific appeals from time to time, for items such as baby toiletries,
tinned foods, toys, suitcases, etc. To help with this project please
contact your own deanery leader.
Other local projects include knitting clothing for premature babies,
running drop-in centres and lunch clubs, sending baptism anniversary
cards, and making toy bags for toddlers in church. We also provide
an ongoing supply of knitted teddies to Lincolnshire
Ambulance service, for them to give to children they transport.
Locally members are now making up story bags for use in their pre-schools,
primary schools, Sunday schools and libraries.
All this is apart from supporting the outreach work of our diocesan
centre, St. Benedict's, by coming in on a rota system to provide refreshments
and a welcome to all who call in. Can you think of local needs not
being met? Speak to your deanery leader,
or the diocesan Action and Outreach Co-ordinator.
We also have an excellent resource called "The Good Practice
Guide for Parent & Toddler Groups," and also "Relationships
Matter," a pack to facilitate discussion about relationships
on all sorts of levels. Mothers' Union have another pack called "Living
Positively" to aid discussion about HIV/AIDS, but it is aimed
primarily for use overseas. Contact Office
for details.
